The Attic

Let’s take a little break from all this Kitchen remolding.

I think we should move up another 10 feet, but you better bring some plywood… you’re going to need it.

 

Step 1:

Examine the Hole

Step 3:

Count your blessings that you still have all your fingers after removing a bracket with a giant sprint attached to it.

 

Step 4:

Struggle to fit a 4’x8’ piece of plywood through a 4’1/4”x 8’1/4” diagonal opening while an unhelpful cameraman snaps photos

 

Step 5: Continue to struggle to fit large piece of wood through the slightly larger hole

 

Step 6: Repeat step 5

 

 

Step 7: Repeat step 6

 

Step 8: Repeat step 5

 

Step 9: Repeat step 6

 

Step 10: Repeat step 7

 

Step 10: Repeat step 8

 

Step 11: Repeat step 9

 

Step 12:  Repeat steps 4 to 11 another 15 times

 

Step 13: Begin to make yourself a new floor

Unfortunately when only working with one or two other people there is a lack of extra hands to take pictures.

So, much to my dismay I am going to have to explain what’s going on here.

From the above picture to the below pictures we did the following:

o   Removed all the Plaster

o   Removed all the Lath

o   Removed all the electrical

o   Removed the 3 doors

o   Removed the 3 Door Frames

o   Cut out all the studs for the wall on the right

o   Cut out all but 2 of the studs for the wall on the left

o   Using Ply Wood, we turned the wall on the left into a giant Box Beam

o   Supported the wall on the left with a temporary stud

o   Cut out the fist of the two remaining studs

o   Now we arrived at the picture below where we are cutting out the final original stud leaving our temporary support stud

 

Once the last original support beam was removed, we fastened our final new support beam to the underside of the wall.

Once we were sure that the wall wasn’t going to come crashing down, we removed our temporary support beam and this is the result.

Step Two

Now that we have got the cabinets out of the way, let’s start on the walls.

I’ve got to say…. Demolishing stuff is a hell of a lot faster than putting it all back together.  Plus, it’s a lot more fun… :)

An Open Floor Plan

I should start this post off with an apology.  It’s been well over a month since I have last posted.

Between work and the house, I don’t really have enough time to sleep much less do anything else.  None-the-less there are still expectations of some updates… So I promise, as projects progress, I will at a minimum, keep telling myself that I need to post updates.

------Begin update------

Well for better or worse, we have decided to significantly change the layout of the upper unit.

With this change comes an onslaught of remolding.

When all said and done we will have one less window, two less walls, a ton of cabinets, and a whole lot of counter space… Not to mention a living space that will be brought into the 21^st century.

Our hopes are to find a new home for these cabinets since they are brand new… So, if you, or anyone you know wants to buy a full set of brand new cabinets for dirt cheap, I got the perfect offer for you.

Attic Ladder

Well we installed an attic ladder today.
I think this is all pretty self explanatory... but in case you don't get it, we need storage space in this house and the attic is absolutely the perfect place to do it.

Almost the final product.
We are going to put trim around the opening, and paint it all the same color as the ceiling with the hope that it makes it "disappear"
Also, we plan on doing something different with the pull string.

More Chimney Demolition

Well Alec, our father and Myself spent the better part of they day today demolishing the rest of the Chimney.
We started at the floor of the second level and worked our way through the walls all the way down to the basement.
