Current State of Chaos

I know, I Know....
Its been a very long time since I have posted...
Over the next couple of weeks I will be posting the final projects for the upper unit.
We have not been doing a whole lot work over the last few months... but now the push is on.
Since the last post we have done the following:
Finished installing the cabinets
Finished installing the trim in the hall and got it patched and painted
Had granit counters installed which basically finished our kitchen
We repainted the kitchen because the color we picked did not work with our counters
We finished the attic storage

On October 17th Alec, my parents, and I will be going to Vietnam to meet up with Evan and Jessica - http://tidbits-from-thailand.blogspot.com/ - for two weeks. My goal is to be 100% done with the upper unit by the time we go... and this is what we have left to do:

Paint Living Room
Finish baseboard trim
Paint all trim
Patch and paint fireplace mantel
Install cabinet trim
Finish Plumbing for Washer Dryer
Buy Washer Dryer and install
Finish the central heating
Finishing microwave exhaust
Finish electrical in pantry

Now for the "Current State of Chaos"
This last weekend we had our Floors installed in the kitchen and living room.
3 months later, and discovering we we given the wrong sub floor to install, and wasting another week getting it fixed we finally got it together to get the floors done.
Fist off we had to move everything out the kitchen and living room, and considering the size of the rest of the house.... its a tight fit.

Cabinets

Next up.... some storage space.
This is one of the few tasks that we are not doing our selves...
However I think we got an awesome deal on the install... and it came out pretty damn good.

^^^ This corner cabinet for out sink was a completely custom built... it took the installes a half day to get it right.

The only downside to using someone else to install the cabinets was that they messed up our freshly painted walls... although we quickly found the color didn't work anyways.

Oops

Well... the night before we had the cabinate installers start working, I discovered that we had installed the exhaust duct for the range 3 inches too low... So as I work on staging the cabinates, my dad fixed the oops.

Since I still only have sporadic pictures I am going to post a few miscellaneous projects in this one post.

First we start with replacing the trim around the window in the kitchen.

Making Smooth Walls

Again, I’m short on pictures…

But a brief recap… After putting up the sheet rock all the joints, screws, dings and dents need to be filled with taping compound and sanded…

I spend about 4 hours every night plus the weekends to get the walls smooth… and man was it worth it!

Back On Track

Sorry for the delay...
I got a hole list of excuses as to why I haven't been posting, but I'm sure you don't care so back to the posts.

When I last left you we had just finished cutting out the new door opening between the pantry and the living room.

Now I am picking it back right there as we build a wall where the old door was.

Sorry for the Delay

Life is just crazy now.

There has been some serious progress on the house, but I am finding it difficult to find time to post.
But stay tuned, I will try and get something posted up in the next few days.
